FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How stable is the new BayoRing in comparison to the original ones by Century? Do I have to fear my fisheye falling off the camera?

A: The new BayoRing is as stable as the original ones, as it is manufactured out of the same material. The fisheye fits perfectly, is firm on the camera and cannot fall off.

Q: I have read that the bayonette mount of the VX2100 has been changed in comparison to the VX2000. Is that true?

A: Yes and no. The bayonette mount of the VX2000 and the VX2100 is, in regard to the “ears“, the same. But, Sony has slightly changed (nobody knows why) the thickness of the bayo mount of the new VX2100 models. It is unknown from which serial number on. Sony did not want to send any information to this point.

Q: Does the new BayoRing, nevertheless, fit onto the new slightly changed VX2100 cameras?

A: Yes. That is why there are additional drilling holes (seen from the red center point). See also HowToInstall.pdf.

Q: Is it possible to use the new BayoRing with a Canon GL/XM camera?

A: No, unfortunately that is not possible. But we try to create a BayoRing with the help of which you can use the Mk1 fisheye with the Canon GL/XM camera.

Q: I have read that when using a high aperture e.g. F2, it is not possible to set the focus really sharp. Is that true?

A: No, even when using a F2 aperture, it is possible to have a really sharp picture. The autofocus also works very well with the new BayoRing.

Q: I have installed the new BayoRing. Now, the vignetting is not as perfectly central as seen in your illustrating pictures. Is the BayoRing defective?

A: No, the BayoRing is not defective. The decentralised position of the vignetting is due to the CCds of your camera. These are not to 100 percent on the right position. In this case, please contact your Sony dealer. After the production, each ring is tested if it works with fisheye and camera.

Q: Can I minimize the vignetting by zooming in?

A: Unfortunately not. If you want to minimize the vignetting, you will really have to zoom in very much. But if you do so, there is almost no fisheye-effect left and the margin becomes unsharp. So don't use the zoom.
